A Sacremental Life

A Sacramental Life

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest: “When it pleased God to reveal His Son in me that I might preach Him” (i.e., sacramentally express) “among the Gentiles.”
Sacramentally express, what does that mean?

The dictionary credits “sacrament” with: the consecrated elements of the Eucharist, esp. the bread.

If Oswald Chambers is charging us with preaching Jesus as a sacramental expression what is required?

Jesus is the Bread of Life. Jesus is the Bread that was broken for our sin. When we break bread together (that’s what that little wafer thing is supposed to represent) we are supposed to do it in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice. Chambers is setting down the challenge to do likewise and be sacrificial in our preaching. Does this mean we are to become little Billy Grahams?

Billy Graham’s expression is of his calling and his talent. His Sacramental Expression is his life. He has not only preached Jesus in stadiums but at home to his wife, and his children. He preached Jesus when he tipped waitresses who spilled food on him, or when he ignored someone who insulted him. What kind of showbread are you?

The showbread is so named because it represented the Presence, the countenance of God. And it was eaten by the priests in the Holy Place. You had to be in his Presence to eat of his Presence. Are you that kind of bread, that kind of expression that people see the countenance of God? When you choose to witness, remember the sacrament of Jesus. Remember, even when you don’t choose, you are still a witness, so do it sacramentally. Express the sacred nature of Jesus Christ.
